• ENRICHMENT

Famous artists! Great composers! Classics of literature! These are the bases for our Enrichment Program. Topics that cannot be covered in the regular curriculum, due to time constraints, are introduced to the children in a 40 minute per week class. Technology, cooperative learning, creativity, and critical thinking skills are all used in these classes for Grades 1-6.

• MUSIC

The aim of the music program in grades Pre3-6 is to give the students a greater appreciation of music through theory and practice by singing, listening to appropriate tapes and cd's, and watching & discussing classic musical movies. The students learn skills and gain confidence to sing at liturgies and know the history of different kinds of music.

To accomplish this goal , students learn about rhythm by clapping, using percussion instruments and by being more aware of their voices.

Pre3-4th grade classes meet for 30 minutes while grades 5&6 meet for 45 minutes every Thursday or Friday. The children learn and sing holiday, seasonal songs both secular and religious. Lastly, students and visitors are invited into class to share their musical talent with the students.

We also have a choir of over 30 children from grades 2-4. Practices are on Thursday and we enjoy out of school performances.

• PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education classes stress general physical fitness, cooperation, teamwork, fair play and FUN. You don’t have to be a super athlete.

Everyone enjoys our games which help develop their physical skills in catching, throwing, running, dodging, offense, defense, balance and coordination.
Warm-up and fitness activities are done at the beginning of each class.

We like the old fashioned:

The new:

And the unusual:

The program also includes traditional sports activities for the middle school students and their fitness activities vary weekly, including:

JUST DO YOUR BEST TO BE A SUCCESS!

• PRESCHOOL

The Blessed Sacrament Preschool now offers a half day and full day program for 3-4 year olds.  The program incorporates a wide variety of fun learning activities through the use of monthly themes.  We provide ample opportunities to build socialization and academic skills as well as building a Christian Character of loving and caring towards others.  This program is designed to build and prepare the children for Kindergarten and guide them in the foundation of the Catholic Faith. After school care is also available for preschool students.

• RELIGION

The purpose of our Religion Program at Blessed Sacrament School in grades PreK3-8th is to instruct in the doctrine of the Catholic faith, and encourage students to embrace our Christian and Catholic traditions.  This is accomplished by learning to pray, and by becoming familiar with the Bible, saints, the sacraments and the celebration of the Eucharist.  The children will come to know God better and be able to apply the principles of their faith in their daily lives.

• TITLE I READING 1 - 4
• REMEDIAL PROGRAM 5 – 8

Blessed Sacrament School has both a Chapter I Reading Program for grades Kindergarten to four, and a Remedial Program for grades 5 – 8. Students are referred to Chapter I by the classroom teacher or if testing reveals a need for support. The Chapter I teacher works individually and in a small group setting, using various resources to aid students in mastering reading skills, phonemic awareness, comprehension, and fluency. Students attend Chapter I Reading three times per week.

The Remedial Program, for students in grades five to eight, provides opportunities for re-teaching, review, and reinforcement of skills being taught in the regular classroom. An individual academic plan is developed for each student based on testing performed privately or by their public school system, standardized testing scores, and needs as indicated by the classroom teacher. The Remedial resource room is supplied with a variety of intervention resources and materials, as well as technology to support students with documented learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and/or are in need of individual attention to mastering specific skills.

The Chapter I Reading Program and the Remedial Program have been very successful in identifying learning needs and assisting students in achieving academic success

• AFTER SCHOOL EXTENDED CARE (ASEC) PROGRAM

Blessed Sacrament offers an affordable on-site after school extended day program to service the needs of our families who require child care after regular school hours.  The program is staffed by our own teachers and part-time college students.  Students range from grades Pre K-8 and participate in a variety of activities, some of which include: homework assistance, games, computers, art projects, and much more.  The program maintains a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable environment.  Applications for our program are always open, but space is limited and we almost always have a waiting list.  The program is run in the Kindergarten and Middle School buildings. The after school program is available from school dismissal until 5:30pm. Fees are based on an hourly rate according to the number of children needing service from a family.

• STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council is composed of students from grades 5-8. There is an elected representative and alternate from each homeroom. A President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are also elected from grades 7 and 8.

We provide many activities for the students, such as holiday coloring contests, Halloween parade and parties, Peter Rabbit Junior Olympics, Lip Sync/Talent Show, Pizza Hut Friday once a month as well as many fund raisers throughout the year.

During Catholic Schools Week, lollipops are sold. In June, a Carnival, which is our biggest fundraiser, is held for the entire student body. Money raised from these activities has been used to purchase: a digital camera and amplified sound system for the use of students, clubs and special activities. Classroom furniture, window shades, textbooks and other school related items are also funded as needed.

Student Council also participates in many community outreach projects, such as Coats for Kids, collecting canned goods for the Open Pantry and sponsoring a child from Honduras.

Participating in Blessed Sacrament School’s Student Council is a rewarding experience for each member. Responsibility, leadership and commitment help develop the self-esteem of our members and carry out our school’s mission.
