CATHOLIC CEMETERIES LOGO

The
information about the Diocese of Springfield Catholic Cemeteries' logo
comes partially from the following and the balance of the logo is based
on the crest of the Bishop and the diocese. It begins with the Saint
Michael Cross, the patron of the diocese. That cross is symbolic not
only of the diocesan patron, but also of the Lord himself. It is meant
to speak to the reality of the crucifixion, the death and resurrection
of the Lord. The cross has the 4 circles at the ends which, in the diocesan
shield, are representative of the 4 counties of the diocese; the representation
is the same for the logo.
There
are circles around the center of the cross, meant to communicate water.
The diocesan shield addresses the water issue, i.e. "spring", but in
the logo, the water is representative not only of the diocese's name,
but also of baptism, that in baptism, the individual goes into the "depths"
with Christ, i.e. the tomb, and then rises out of the tomb with the
promise of the kingdom and membership in the communion of saints, the
people of God.
The
curved vertical lines along the sides of the cross are intended to illustrate
the dynamic reality of the building of the Kingdom, that it is a constant
death and resurrection in a multiplicity of experiences, culminating
with the death of the physical body and its birth into eternal life,
the fulfillment of the promise made at baptism.
