Established in 1954, The Catholic Observer is the Diocese of Springfield's award winning, biweekly newspaper. Our readership is more than 10,000 and more than 35,000 for the Easter and Christmas issues.

*The Catholic Observer once again recognized by national Catholic Press Association. Four national awards were given to The Catholic Observer newspaper at the annual convention of the Catholic Press Association in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 25, 2007.

A Jan. 6, 2006 editorial written by Father Bill Pomerleau won first place in "Best Editorial on a National or International Issue" for “Dying for a New Life” . Observer reporter, Peggy Weber, took third place for her Dec. 1, 2006 story titled “Members of Support Group Seek Acceptance for Homosexual Children,”in the catagory of “Best Feature Writing.” Sharon Roulier received a third place award in the category of “Best Personality Profile” for a Dec. 15, 2006 story titled “George Champoux Makes Every Day Special.” In the same category, Sister of St. Joseph Catherine Homrok, chief operating officer, received an Honorable Mention Award for a Nov. 3, 2006 profile she wrote on Sister of St. Joseph Mary Richard Tyrrell, titled “Springfield Sister Still Spiritually and Physically Active at 100.”
