Deaf Ministry
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

Children involved in the regular Religious Education Program are prepared for sacraments as they are ready for them. These include Baptism, First Eucharist, Reconciliation, and Confirmation.

Any deaf adult who has not received these sacraments can also receive education about and preparation for any of these sacraments. Couples planning to marry can attend marriage preparation classes (Pre-Cana classes) through the office for Ministry With the Deaf. Pre-Cana classes are required before the couple can receive the sacrament of Matrimony.

The office for Ministry With the Deaf works with parishes in the diocese to offer sacramental preparation. Students (children or adults) usually receive the sacraments in their own home parish. The office tries to provide interpreters for the day on which the sacrament is received.

If anyone has questions or wants more information, please call the office for Ministry With the Deaf at 413-592-4071 V/TTY.
