The Easter Triduum (meaning three days) is the solemn observance of Christ's Death and Resurrection which are, as we might say, two sides of the same coin. The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper (Holy Thursday) continues with the Good Friday observance and reaches its high point with the celebration of the Easter Vigil.

Holy Thursday, April 17th is the anniversary of the Last Supper, when Christ instituted the Eucharist, the Sacrifice of the Mass, and the Sacrament of the Priesthood. Holy Thursday is also called Maundy Thursday, taken from the Latin mandatum which means “commandment.” When our Lord washed the feet of His Apostles, He said, “I give you a new commandment; that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34). The Mass of the Lord's Supper will be at 7:00 p.m. and will include with the ceremony of the Washing of the Feet.

Good Friday, April 18th, is the only day of the year when Mass is not celebrated in the Roman rite. This is the day of Christ’s death on the Cross, and has been a day of fast and abstinence from the earliest Christian times. The Stations of the Cross, in which we remember the love of Jesus on His way to Calvary, will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. A Communion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. which will include the service of the veneration of the Cross.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will begin today following Stations of the Cross and will be prayed daily at 3:00 p.m. for nine consecutive days concluding on Mercy Sunday.

Holy Saturday, April 19th, is the eve of Easter and the day Christ remained in the tomb. The Easter Vigil is an approximation of the ancient Easter Vigil (to keep watch) which would conclude with Easter Mass at dawn. The Easter Vigil of our Lord’s Resurrection will take place at 8:00 p.m. in the church and is the most solemn evening in the entire Church year which includes the blessing of fire, representing Christ, the Light of the World, and the blessing of water, representing our new life through Baptism. Included in this Vigil service will be the prophetic readings from the Old and New Testaments anticipating the Resurrection.

Day two of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Novena will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. in the Adoration Chapel.

Easter Sunday, April 20th - The Masses for Easter day celebrating the central fact of Christianity of the Resurrection of our Lord will be at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Day three of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Novena will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. in the Adoration Chapel.

The bells and organ will play for the last time at the Gloria of the Mass and the Eucharist will be transferred in solemn procession to the “Altar of the Holy Prison” recalling the arrest and imprisonment of Jesus. THE GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE OF THE LORD’S PASSION, 7:00 p.m. will commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus on the Cross. The Passion Gospel of St. John will be read followed by the unveiling and veneration of the Cross. The Liturgy of the Pre-sanctified will follow with Holy Communion. The Holy Eucharist will then be transferred to the “Altar of the Garden Tomb” where it will remain until Easter morning. The church will remain open until 9:00 p.m. for private prayer before the Altar of the Garden Tomb.

HOLY SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH - The church will be open all day from 8:00 a.m. for private adoration before the Blessed Sacrament at the Altar of the Garden Tomb.

THE TRADITIONAL BLESSING OF EASTER FOOD called the Święconka will take place in the church undercroft on Holy Saturday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 1:00 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to bring their Easter baskets with their Easter dinner for the beautiful ceremony of the blessing. Also please bring the children with their candy baskets, chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs. There is a special blessing for them too!

THE HOLY SATURDAY MASS OF THE NIGHT WATCH – 8:00 p.m. April 19th will begin with the blessing of the new fire and the Paschal Candle, the “Remembrance Readings” from the Old and New Testaments, the Blessing of Water, and the Renewal of Baptismal promises.
