Project
Rachel is a Catholic outreach to women and men hurting from past abortions.
The central
focus of Project Rachel is the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a privileged
and safe encounter with God’s Mercy, the source al all healing.
Through
contact with Project Rachel, men and women will be offered information,
prayer, individual and peer-group counseling, and healing retreats.
Most
importantly, they will be able to meet with a priest or counselor
who will welcome them and counsel them in a prayerful atmosphere of
respect and sensitivity.
Project
Rachel reaches out to women and men who are hurting because of an
abortion experience---whether they have had an abortion, or have helped
someone else to obtain one. Project Rachel reaches out to those yearning
to be reconciled with themselves, their unborn children, with the
Church, and with God. Project
Rachel helps those who desire to be made whole again, by the power
of God’s forgiving love.
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Why the
Name Project Rachel?
Project
Rachel is named after Rachel, a woman in the Hebrew Scriptures who
wept bitterly over the loss of her child and “could not be consoled.”
It was said that her tears were a prophecy of the mothers who wept
when Herod slaughtered the Holy Innocents, when he sought to kill
Jesus.
“Thus
says the Lord: in Ramah is heard the sound of mourning, of bitter
weeping! Rachel mourns her children; she refuses to be consoled because
her children; are no more. Thus says the Lord: Cease from your cries
of mourning, wipe the tears from your eyes. The sorrow you have shown
will have its reward. There is hope for your future, says the Lord.”
Jeremiah 31: 15-17
