HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DIOCESAN PLAN
FOR THE INTRODUCTION, RECEPTION
AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL

“May this process of the implementation of the revised Roman Missal be a time of deepening, nurturing, and celebrating our faith through our worship and the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.”
From the USCCB Website for the Roman Missal

Below is a summary of the Plan designed to assist in the reception and implementation of the revised Roman Missal so that, priests, deacons, and the faithful may be properly prepared, formed and have a deeper understanding and appreciation of what is being prayed in the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass.

Bishop McDonnell has appointed a committee to facilitate the implementation of the Revised Roman Missal in the Diocese of Springfield. The committee will oversee and aid in the liturgical formation and catechesis on the Missal.

The Diocesan Plan provides for the formation of Priests, Deacons, Diocesan and Parish Leadership, Catechists, Catholic School personnel, Youth Leaders, Parish Liturgical Ministers, and Parish Music Ministers. Numerous formation opportunities will be provided throughout the coming year as we prepare to receive and implement the new Roman Missal. A summary of each of these opportunities is as follows:

Two workshops for liturgical formation on the revised Missal will be provided, including a review of its sacramental theology, the construction of its ritual texts, how these texts have been revised to more closely reflect the meaning and the beauty of their sources and how the ritual texts may be prayed by the celebrant and increase the active and conscious participation of all the faithful in the assembly during the Sacred Liturgy of the Mass.

All the Faithful
While the Catholic Mirror will be running a 14 part series on the new missal beginning with the September 2010 issue, formation of the faithful will be the primary responsibility of the parish leadership. The diocesan program is intended to give parish leadership the tools and resources needed to build a formation program appropriate for their congregation. The people should watch for informative bulletin inserts, seminars and workshops to be offered in their parishes or in the local area.
