for our Catholic Christian Tradition, expressed in ways that are relevant
and speak to the lives of youth today.
- A deep
sense of Christian community that respects, welcomes, and celebrates
the diversity of all God’s people.
- A commitment
to collaboration in serving the needs of youth.
- A belief
in the importance and influence of families in the faith life of youth.
PURPOSE
The Diocese
of Springfield’s youth ministry exists to be stewards* of Christ’s
love** in serving the needs of youth.
* characteristics
of “steward”: servant (not master); seasoned reliability
(experienced, knowledgeable, wise, trustworthy); in the absence of the
Master (responsible for what we do not own – non-possessive care)
(gleamed from The Emerging Laity and The Promise of Partnership by James
E. and Evelyn Easton Whitehead)
** the blessings (gifts, talents, resources, people) found within the
community of faith
